(1) Install PDANet from CYDIA
(2) Reboot iPhone
(3) Create adhoc network in your notebook

MacBook Procedure

(a) System Preference -> Network
(b) Turn On AIRPORT
(c) Create Network...
(d) Name : PDANET
(e) Make sure you remove all kind of proxy settings in the Advanced Settings

You need to have wifi enabled in your notebook

(a) Click the Start Button and select Control Panel.
(b) Select Network and Internet. (If Control Panel is in Classic View, skip this step)
(c) Open Network and Sharing Center.
(d) Select Set up a connection or network (in the left pane).
(e) In the resulting window, select Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network.
(f) Click Next and again on the following page.
(g) In the Network name textbox, input e.g. "PDANET" as the name of the network.
(h) Select a security type from the dropdown. (If you select WEP, you will need to enter a security key in the unghosted textbox)
(i) If you want to use this network more than once, check the Save this network checkbox, if you only need it for a one time fix, leave the checkbox unchecked.
(j) Click Next.
(k) Click Close.

(4) iPhone
Connect to cellular network (3G/EDGE/GPRS) first

Settings -> Wifi -> Choose PDANET

(5) iPhone Launch

PDANet

and it will detect the network and set Wifi router to ON automatically

(6) Test your internet connection in your notebook

原本save 了哩個網頁, 想上到火車睇住黎setup, 唔知點解, save 完只係有我自己果個回復, 無了版主果段...

結果憑回憶加亂撞... 都成功了.

不過好奇怪... 唔係萬試萬靈的. 我第一次失敗, 再做第二次, 其實只係將network 斷開再連, 就已經成功. 我都唔係好明.

至於失敗的地方, 係部iPhone 開了wifi 之後, 自己lock 死用wifi 經電腦上網, 變相個PDANet detect 唔到個cmnet, 上唔到. 我斷開個wifi 再試一次, 就可以了.

This is GREAT!!!

Previous software is difficult to use, this one is insanely simple on Mac!

My home broadband is provided for free from the management office, which every now and then broke down for a few days. Now I can at least check mail or go to text majority sites(like Wiki) with Peoples' GPRS in reasonable speed!

If I should upgrade to 3G unlimited plan, I might well save my office's broadband as well!

This method only works for a temp/adhoc basis. Your iPhone will be very hot and battery running out very fast. Moreover, it will be disconnected on long connection time or large download data.

If you use 3G data connection on notebook very often, I suggest you to buy a USB modem instead.

我坐火車果日都覺得部電話有少許熱, 但, 我當時因為怕出番去home 或者lock 電話個wifi 會斷(據我所知, lock 機廿秒wifi 會自動斷), 所以, 我用了一個好笨的方法...

我用張車飛, 放係電話的上端, 可能用EDGE 的關係, 一放上去, 就好似打電話放個電話埋塊面一樣(因為我遮住了果三粒紅外線), 馬上off screen. 咁樣, 部機又可以慳電又唔熱. \@_@/

我幾時無聊, 會試試lock 機睇下斷唔斷的. (我在國內的手提電話費公司俾的, 唔怕試, 呵呵呵)

It depends on what background jobs in your iPhone is running.

The hotter the iPhone, the sooner it will freeze your iPhone and connection.

So avoid doing it for a long time, checking mail or web browsing for 10 to 20 minutes are OK. And switch the wifi router off when you are no longer in use, so that your iPhone will cool down.

If you use it to download large files, you will know and will be very frustrated.

ver 1.3 剛出左啦! 新 version 可比你熄機都唔會斷線... 遲 d 試下係咪真係得先

It may not have anything to do with iphone getting too hot...

I asked PDANet support, they told me this is possibly a memory leakage problem and that they are working on a fix.

Also, I tried using Tunnelier - downloading a 100mb file can be done successfully with no problem.

Using PDANet, it fails everytime at around 40 - 45 mb.

剛出了新版 PDANet 1.31. 試過下發覺穩定左好多, 能成功 download 大如 100mb 既 file.

似乎終於有 iPhone 變 broadband modem 既終極方案啦!
