Just bought the new iPhone 3G yesterday from "3", happy!

I want to use my CSL SIM to connect to internet. I inserted my CSL SIM, signal OK, can make phone call, but can't connect to internet.

I know the APN should be edit (just like my 2G iPhone) however, I found that "Cellular Data Network" option is disappear. This should be in Setting->General->Network. Anyone know how to get this option show up? thanks.

That's why you need jailbreak in iPhone 3G.

You can try
(1)
May be you try to turn off the 3G option first to see whether the EDGE setting will come up

(2) reset network setting to see whether EDGE setting will come up or not.

javacom, thanks for your suggestion.

Yes, already did that, but no luck.

Also tried full restore (by connect the USB cable and hold down both home and power button for 20 second to enter recovery mode), still not success.

The software is the newest 5A347.

Any idea?

How do you switch sim card in iPhone 3G?

(1) try to switch sim card when the phone is on.

(2) borrow someone else sim card and try other sim cards, e.g. smartone, people.

By the way, is your CSL card with EDGE plan or 3G data plan?

i am using csl sim as well.

i did these step:

1. insert csl sim
2. open itunes and register
3. asked to update carrier setting in itunes on pc. press yes but error appeared
4. can use csl and can set APN on my iphone

have ur itunes asked u to update carrier settings?

I just discovered the problem. The iPhone not support CSL mobile betting SIM!!

I swapped a new non-betting SIM in CSL today and the Celluar Data Service show up.

This is my findings of 2G data plan sim card that put in iPhone 3G

CSL/One2Free => cannot input APN and cannot connect to EDGE
Peoples => can input APN and connect sucessfully

搵到個臨時方法去入 iPhone 3G
One2Free / CSL 的 APN

不過方法比較煩

(A) 首先有一些 one2free / CSL sim card 不能輸入APN, 不能 connect EDGE, 有些可以輸入APN
不能輸入APN的可能是 EDGE plan 的 sim card
可以輸入APN應該是 3G plan 或沒有EDGE plan 的 sim card

(B) 這些One2Free / CSL sim card 放入 iPhone 3G 後不能被正確識別而APN 當為 3HK, 這問題我已在beta 3 firmware發現, 但jailbreak iPhone 可以更改APN, 所以問題可解決

(C) 現時 IPhone 3G 仍等侍 jailbreak, 臨時方法如下

(1) 插入別人可以輸入APN的 CSL/One2Free simcard, iPhone 進入 設定 -> 一般 -> 網路頁面

(2) 將 別人的sim card 退出

(3) 不理會 "尚未安裝sim 片" 訊息, 插入自已 CSL/One2Free sim card

(4) 按 "行動資料網路"

(5) 在 APN 將資料改為 HKCSL

(6) 按回上頁後退出及測試EDGE

但設定會在更換sim card 後失效, 所以是臨時方法
